1. Noah Martin- Ottawa, Canada

Last year, in July, around 9 am I was sitting with a cup of coffee and reading newspaper. The day seemed to be beautiful until I logged in to my Instagram account. I was shocked to see my account being suspended. It was one of the most disheartening moments for me. From the past 6 months, I had invested a lot of time and money in achieving my dream. I used to post numerous photos and videos daily and was getting a decent response. But everything was just not at the place for that moment, I was shocked and numb together. I thought what would have gone wrong. The Instagram page showed me that I got an error: “Your account has been disabled for violating our terms.” I clicked on the "Learn More" section, but the “Learn More” link provided no additional information. After researching much on the internet, I just realized where I have gone wrong. At the initial stage of my Instagram account, I bought online followers and likes from a few sites. This thing helped me grow and show the audience that I am a popular guy and getting some good response. I never knew this greed of mine is going to take away all my efforts in a single go. The most apparent sign of receiving an account suspension from Instagram is through trying to grow a significant number of likes and followers at one time. This can happen in both cases if you have used third-party promotion tools or performed manual actions without studying the users’ profiles.

Well, it took around 3 weeks to solve this issue. I can only tell you guys to not run after the websites who provide bot service otherwise you will have to face such annoying problems which can ruin your hard work and money.

2. Oliver Jones- Wales, United Kingdom

In the year 2017, I completed a bachelor’s degree in English. While interning with an online magazine, I decided to start my YouTube channel. Seeing how people are getting popular with the help of social media platforms, I also thought that getting some fame won’t be a bad idea. I started searching for some ideas and concluded that I will start a travel channel. I will visit some beautiful places and will record my journey and then show it to the world. In the beginning, it was all going well, but after 2-3 months I just realized that my channel is not getting sufficient views. I discussed this scenario with a friend of mine, and he gave me the idea of buying some YouTube views online. He suggested me some website names which can help in getting those views to benefit me in social media promotion. After buying these views and getting the result, I was happy and thought this thing to be one of the best ways to become a good YouTuber. It was not even a month that a terrible situation accrued and my YouTube account was suspended. I felt annoyed and YouTube took me to a page where the terms and conditions were written. I got to know that the reason behind the suspension of my YouTube channel was fake views that I bought. I learned that this was not the proper way of getting fame. I was making a fool of the target audience who trusted me by showing the views which were not real.

3. Neha Sharma- Delhi, India

As fashion bloggers gaining popularity through one of the most famous social media platforms Instagram, people started thinking of this as their profession. And one of such an aspiring person to become a fashion blogger was me. Being a fashion enthusiast, I always thought of bringing my fashion creativity and art before the world. So, I decided to do this with fully-fledged plans and strategies. I made a list of the necessities and thought everything to go perfectly. I saved some amount for the market research, photo shoot, and especially for buying some online Instagram components like followers and likes. I wanted to create goodwill before my audience in less time. So, I thought to show people that I am already famous which will help me in seeking some attention from the people at the beginning. Things were going perfect, but suddenly I observed that the followers and like I was buying started decreasing day by day. I got angry thinking that this was not what I paid for. I paid for a service which is going to sustain and will help me grow, not for something which shall vanish after a period of time. I never wanted something like this to happen and asked a friend of mine working for a media agency about this. He told me clearly that “The fake websites will send you the worst-quality services possible, and then take your money and run. Poor-quality views will have low retention and will offer significantly less value than views from a legitimate website.” That was the time I got to know where I was lacking behind. My suggestion for everyone reading my story is simple that if they are in need of such services they should prefer those who are providing authenticity. Otherwise, it will be a total loss of money and time. Buying services from a website thinking it is providing something in your budget is not going to give you the perfect service, this can be a scam and would be an only option to make fool out of innocent people.

4. Ethan Martin- Toronto, Canada

Working as a high school English teacher was always fun for me. I used to interact with my students on various topics and the response I was getting from their side was really appreciating. Weekly I used to plan lessons in advance and was taking out some creative ways to make my students understand more. I knew that only concentrating on studies would become boring and students will not be enthusiastic to study in the class. So, I used to narrate various stories to make my students more comfortable in class. Things were going good, and one day while surfing the internet I saw an old friend who was also a teacher in a different school giving online lessons on YouTube. I was really impressed to see how he was getting good views and likes on his channel. I thought it can be a good thing for me too. Even I can plan some lessons and educate children online. I thought my storytelling hobby can also help me in getting good subscribers and the audience will enjoy my videos. And then I started my YouTube journey, I uploaded my first video and got a good response. I told my students about the same and they were also helping me by telling friends and families to watch my videos. After a few videos, I realized I am not getting the desired result. Then I started browsing the internet to find some ways to increase my YouTube likes and views. I came to a website where they were selling YouTube services for some dollars. I was amazed and thought it can be a good way to show people that I am having a good follower base and by seeing that even they would start taking more interest in my channel. So, I bought some views and likes and was feeling happy with this new platform where I am getting a little famous. Everything was perfect, till the day I got a login issue in my YouTube account and received a mail regarding the suspension of my channel for violating the YouTube norms. I literally panicked and was thinking about how I would have violated any norms of this website. After going through the mail I got to know that all this happened because of the YouTube services I bought. The website got to know that I am using some fake views and likes to get some fame and this was not appropriate. I apologized to YouTube that such thing will not happen in the future.

Narayan Shinde - Mumbai, India

2017 was an amazing year for me. While working as a chef in a renowned hotel in Mumbai, I planned to have my startup. I believe that food business is something that is never going to end. Yes, it can grow with time by adding delicious dishes to the menu and maintaining goodwill with the clients. And after that, I entered into an entrepreneur zone and bought a beautiful location, hired some amazing chefs and prepared an appetizing menu and started living my dream career. I made a Facebook, Instagram and Twitter page to promote my food café on social media platforms. While I was getting a good response on Facebook and Instagram, my Twitter page was not getting satisfactory followers. The platform was important for me because I wanted to connect to some celebrities by tagging them and inviting to my café. Without getting a good follower base, nobody was going to believe that I am getting a good response. While having the evening snack with my friends, I discussed this scenario, and they gave me the idea of buying some Twitter followers online. They even recommended some famous websites where I can buy this service. After buying followers for my Twitter account,  I was feeling happy and enjoying tweeting about every dish and the description. I thought it can a good way to increase more followers, and I bought some more followers after a few days. Well, this strategy was not going to last long as my Twitter account got suspended. I was annoyed thinking about how the website could suspend my account without any warning. After researching on the internet I got the information that Twitter clearly states "Most of the accounts we suspend are suspended because they are spammy, or just plain fake, and they introduce security risks for Twitter and all of our users. These types of accounts are against our Twitter Rules. Unfortunately, sometimes a real person’s account gets suspended by mistake, and in those cases, we’ll work with the person to make sure the account is unsuspended." I tried a lot to get my account back but Twitter was not ready to give my account back. So, I had no other option rather than making a new account and promising myself that I am not going to make such mistakes again.

6. Kungawo Botha- Johannesburg, South Africa

What was turning out to be a restful Saturday night dinner for me turned into a digital nightmare when Facebook suddenly disabled my account after I bought some photo likes and video views from a website selling these services online. While chatting with my friends on Facebook messenger, we were having the conversation on increasing our likes and views on Facebook. A friend of mine said that it would be a good idea to buy some likes and views online. And without wasting time I was the one who took the initiative to open Google, searched for a website and bought this service. Only after coming back to the messenger and telling my friends about the same, I automatically started getting logged out of messenger. I opened the Facebook app and that session time out and asked me to log in again. I felt something was wrong with my phone or the internet, I decided to get online on my laptop. Only then, it began to strike me that Facebook has disabled my Facebook account. I realized that my Facebook profile with over 1000 friends and many photos and messages is no longer accessible. That was the time I got to know that the decision I made of buying fake likes and views was completely a stupid decision. I called my friends and told them about this and asked them not to get into something like this that only going to disappoint them.

After completing high school and getting admission to pursue a bachelor’s degree, I wanted to live my dreams of becoming a rapper. I had written numerous songs and sang them in school. And now I thought it was the right time to gain some fame on social media. With various online media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Soundcloud (specifically for musicians) I thought that I am going to make it big. At the initial stage of creating a SoundCloud profile, I took the decision of buying a good deal of SoundCloud plays. I saved an amount of my pocket money for this service and entered into the world of SoundCloud where I can make a big name. Only after uploading 2 songs and getting some genuine, and numerous fake plays, I was unable to access my SoundCloud account. I received a mail which said, “we are writing to you today to let you know that your account has been suspended for violating our Terms of Use ( on the grounds of being dedicated to misrepresentation and using this to boost popularity on SoundCloud.” I was shocked to see this and then clicking on the further information section, I came to know that SoundCloud clearly states in the terms and conditions section that “you must not employ any techniques or make use of any services, automated or otherwise, designed to misrepresent the popularity of Your Content on the Platform, or to misrepresent your activity on the Platform, including without limitation by the use of bots, botnets, scripts, apps, plugins, extensions or other automated means to register accounts, log in, add followers to your account, play Content, follow or unfollow other users, send messages, post comments, or otherwise to act on your behalf, particularly where such activity occurs in a multiple or repetitive fashion” I didn’t know what to do and was upset. After a few days, I made another account and promised myself not to get into such websites and services that are not at all real.

8. Tanya Khatri- Chandigarh, India

Being a travel enthusiast, I always wanted to explore as much as I can. I went to various places during my college days and traveling was a favorite part of my life. After getting into a job, it was very limited for me to travel. I used to visit nearby places and had to wait for months to get my holidays approved by my manager. I had to do something related to traveling to keep my interest alive and not to feel that life is boring. While surfing Instagram one day, I decided to start my Instagram travel page. I thought this would be a good way to interact with other people who are also wanderers like me, and I can upload numerous pictures that can make me socially active. It was then I created my page and started uploading my old photos and videos. It was fun until I realized I am not left with more amazing photos to upload and thought what to do. That was the time I started taking screenshots of trips of famous travel bloggers, cropped them and used to upload on my page. It was not even a few days after which my account was blocked by Instagram. I was then informed by the website that I have violated the copyright issues by uploading photos and videos of other accounts without even giving them the credit. I researched the web and got to know that the copyright issue is a big deal on Instagram. All images in your account must be either yours or permitted by the author. If you want to share somebody else’s image, tag the author in the photo (provided he has an Instagram account) and give credit to the author in the description. If you use images for commercial purposes, you will need to ask the author’s permission. Moreover, if you post videos with music to which you don’t have the rights, Instagram will remove such posts for sure. The author can report you to Instagram for using the photo without their agreement or specifying the authorship and you can be blocked for copyright infringement.

9. Gabriel Arthur- France

Social media promotion became an essential part of online marketing. Recently, a friend of mine started a fashion blog and wanted to promote herself on various platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Due to the lack of time, she asked me to do some good promotion on Twitter for her. I don’t know what came to my mind, and I told her that we can increase the number of followers and comments on her tweets by creating numerous accounts and that will help to create goodwill before reputed people. We bought a few sim cards and made numerous Gmail accounts to create fake accounts on Twitter. The journey begins, and I started to perform the tasks I promised and planned to do. It was all going well, and I was enjoying to see a decent audience participating in the comment section and interacting with them with various accounts. One night, after coming back from office I logged in to the Twitter account, and a window popped up telling that Twitter has suspended that account. I thought there would be an issue with that particular account but after trying to login with other accounts as well the same thing happened. That was not the end for this, even my personal Twitter account was suspended. I got panicked and called a friend who works for an IT firm. He visited my place and told me how Twitter has not only suspended my accounts but also blocked the IP address of my internet connection. I was shocked by the step taken by Twitter. I was not even having the courage to request to solve the situation because I knew I was wrong. From that time onwards, I just recommend everyone not to try something like this, because the consequences can be disheartening. This way, me and my friend not only lost our fake accounts I created to have some benefits but also lost our personal accounts. Twitter prohibits any attempt to use automation for the purposes of posting or disseminating spam, and such behavior may result in enforcement action.

10. Shahraban Abdullah- Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Facebook has become a popular platform for promoting your business. A large number of companies have their Facebook page for their business promotion. In the year 2016, I also planned to promote my startup on this amazing platform. I thought more people knowing about my business is going to help me bring more clients and I can generate revenues. An employee working in my company suggested me about 2-3 websites that provide the Facebook components. I thought getting some more views on the videos that are uploaded on my page is going to help me seek more attention from clients. And without wasting much time I purchased them. First of all the time promised by the vendor was not fulfilled and after that, my account was suspended. This was one of the worst suggestion I think I took. According to the Facebook norms I had not done the right thing by buying some fake views and showing that those were authentic. Therefore, I realized anyhow those bots were not going to help me grow for very long.

11. William Davis- New York City

From music videos to pranks and short films, YouTube has emerged as a big player. Every individual in need of fame wants to be a star on this platform. And with this popularity of YouTube, I also planned to become a Youtuber last year. I thought creating videos and uploading it on YouTube can be really easy. And yes it was, but the difficult part was to get likes, views, and subscribers. I uploaded around 8 videos and was not getting the number of views I was expecting to get. I wanted to have a good response in a very short period. And then I thought getting an organic response from the audience can be a lengthy process and this way I’ll have to wait a lot. So, I thought purchasing some views and like online won’t be a bad thing to do. That will create a different impact on viewers and introduce my profile as an established YouTuber. I will be highlighted and maybe any producer is going to hire me to act in a short film or documentary. With dreams in my eyes, I bought YouTube views and likes and was feeling glad to see my YouTube channel. I started uploading screenshots to show my friends how I am getting famous. But this happiness was not going to stay for a long period of time. With a notification that my YouTube account is suspended, I was unable to log in. I just realized why these fake services are not going to help and even made trouble for me. That was the time I thought that going natural would have been a better choice. It was all because of my impatient attitude. I thought there would be some ways to get my account back but came to know that unless YouTube reviews the channel and account, nothing can happen.
